Ai Weiwei: Circle of Animals/ Zodiac Heads, 2011, After seeing that work exhibited by this artist I had to take a look as I knew that he was curating the Koestler awards. The sculptures were a great size and dominated the space in which it was exhibited. All sculptures depict the Chinese New Year and show their traditional forms that would normally be found in the artist’s hometown. These pieces show just the head of each animal and capture the motion and expression of each animal. The sculptures looked like dark brass and showed weight on a thin metal pole. I liked the scale of these pieces and when standing in the middle of the sculptures they commanded your attention and this created a good space to experience the art.
