Sculpture out back

Giuseppe Penone ‘Lightning Struck Tree’ After visiting The Museum of Fine Art I had remembered that I had seen a sculpture outside the gallery and when finishing my visit I wanted to walk around to see this unusual sculpture. This sculpture was a tree trunk that had been split down the middle and coated with a gold leaf. When reading about the artists work I like how art can take a fascination with the earths eco system and the power of the weather and to formulate a piece of artwork that collaborates both of these aspects. This sculpture demonstrates the power of lightning and uses a tree that had been struck by lightning and the interior of the tree that has been exposed has been covered in gold leaf to symbolize the power and brightness of the lightning. I love how it has a delicate element to it as it symbolises the fragile nature of our trees and also demonstrates the destructive nature of our weather. Also it shows a valuable piece with the gold leaf showing out from the interior of the tree and with the sun shining off of the surface this piece draws the viewers eyes from a distance and this reflection of light increases the visual power of the lightning.
